Ah, the kitchen. One of those rare spaces that can produce such a wide array of emotions. From absolute joy at the thought of spending an afternoon with a mixer and a new muffin recipe, to the sheer panic at the very same idea! It really depends on who you are! But whichever camp you’re in, the kitchen is one of those rooms that you will be in and out of more often than a 6-year-old who just discovered a revolving door.
If you’re in the Martha Stewart camp, the kitchen is your safe haven, and that means you probably like things to be “just so”. The mid-sized pan always goes in the bottom-left drawer, the trendy fake peonies stay put on the island, and if someone tries to move your iconic bird statue that glimmers in the morning sun, the whole house is going to hear about it. You’ve got shimmering granite countertops, a brand-new convection oven and one of those really deep sinks that can basically fit an entire dishwasher load in just one side. Or maybe these are all things on your bucket list, just waiting to be checked off! Either way, you have a vision of the perfect kitchen, and you know what you want.
For some, these characteristics might not be a big deal. You might like things to be a little bit more simple-just a cleanly space that doesn’t have dishes piling up in the sink. Fancy countertops might not be a priority, but something durable that doesn’t look too terrible will do just fine. You might not be whipping up turkey dinner for the whole family, but you still want something easy on the eyes. After all, you do have to look at this room more than a few times a day!
However, you feel about the kitchen, it’s one of those rooms you just can’t ignore, and for anyone using it they will need it to be functional if not beautiful. This can mean having things in the right place, or simply the right lighting to make sure you julienne the carrots and not your fingers. Whether you’re a dinner party enthusiast or just want to get your kids’ lunches made, you still need a degree of functionality. Having the right window coverings can enhance both the overall appearance and the use of this central location in the home.
